Redefining Freight Procurement and Optimization: Why we Invested in GoodShip

Why Freight Needs a Shipper-First OS

The freight tech stack is largely centered on solutions built for brokers and carriers. Yet, there has been surprisingly little focus on a key stakeholder in every freight transaction: the shipper. Despite U.S. shippers spending nearly one trillion dollars annually on freight, most still rely on spreadsheets, email, generic procurement tools, and BI dashboards to manage critical aspects of the supply chain process.

This manual, fragmented workflow results in a reactive procurement process, costing enterprise shippers millions of dollars each year. After mapping the landscape of existing solutions, it became clear to us that there was a large market opportunity and only one company uniquely positioned to solve this problem: GoodShip.

GoodShip functions as the modern operating system for the freight industry. By integrating data from across the enterprise, GoodShip gives teams real-time visibility into freight operations and clear, actionable levers to drive savings. Shippers use the platform as a single pane of glass to manage weekly load execution, optimize contracts, and run data-backed RFPs - making it both their orchestration layer and procurement command center. Carriers, meanwhile, can track their performance, bid on RFPs, and collaborate with shippers all within the same platform.

In a crowded field of freight tech vendors, GoodShip made the deliberate choice to build a neutral platform for the supply chain industry. That means it does not operate a brokerage-aligned business model. Instead, GoodShip serves as a trusted third-party platform for both shippers and carriers.

We believe GoodShip is exceptionally well positioned to become the leader in AI-powered freight procurement and optimization. As part of this fundraise, the company is investing aggressively in AI to raise the ceiling on freight performance. GoodShip’s product roadmap lays out a clear plan to support long-term goals: strengthening decision support, compressing workflows, and advancing toward fully automated execution.

GoodShip Founders Ryan Soskin and David Tsai, with Greenfield members Itay Inbar & Olivia Levine

When we met Ryan Soskin, CEO of GoodShip, it was immediately clear that he deeply understood these pain points. Ryan is a freight industry veteran, having started his career at Coyote Logistics before becoming the de facto freight expert as an early employee at Convoy, where he launched the contract pricing team. He later led the freight division at Stord. His co-founder and CTO, David, brings equally strong domain expertise. After starting his career working on early ordering systems at Amazon, David joined Convoy as one of its first engineers, where he met Ryan. David went on to lead the marketplace engineering organization. The two worked closely together at Convoy, developing a deep understanding of the freight industry and a shared conviction around the need for better infrastructure. Both founders possess the industry expertise, technical depth, and business acumen to build a defining company in freight.

Shortly after investing, we spent time onsite with the entire team and saw firsthand the strength of GoodShip’s culture. Beyond the founders, the majority of the team comes with deep logistics experience and are genuinely passionate about the company’s vision.

GoodShip has demonstrated phenomenal traction, growing ARR 10x year-over-year. But even more important than that growth is the consistency of impact across customers. Enterprises reported a 3–5% reduction in transportation spend relative to market and a 20% decrease in late shipments, translating to millions in annual savings.

In the supply chain space, it’s rare for customers to speak so enthusiastically about a software vendor. With GoodShip, our investment thesis was repeatedly validated by customers who all emphasized how core the platform had become to their daily operations. A few direct quotes:

  • “If I had to fight for what to keep with a limited budget, I would fight for GoodShip. It is the most impactful tool for what I do.”
  • “I am a believer that GoodShip is the best positioned on procurement, both in terms of RFP execution and analytics in the market. If I had to put money on someone to take market share, it would be GoodShip. I’m super impressed with how conscious they are about what’s on the platform.”
  • “Until GoodShip, I hadn’t been impressed with something in a long time in this industry.”
  • “We found an ROI in the first 30 days that paid for the first year-plus of the contract.”
  • “We’re really looking to have GoodShip in all cases be our single pane of glass on all of our KPIs as well as our financials.”

The Road Ahead

We are proud to lead GoodShip’s Series B alongside our friends at Bessemer Venture Partners, Ironspring Ventures, Chicago Ventures, and FUSE VC. Shippers have long been underserved by their tech stack, and we believe GoodShip is uniquely positioned to change that.
